Explorers are eligible to take part in World Scout Jamboree that occur ever 4 years.

Explorers is the fourth section of the Scouting family and is for young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They wear a brown shirt or blouse, with a Unit necker, and navy blue activity trousers or skirt.

A group of Explorer Scouts is called a Unit and not all Units meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that occur in a teenager’s life. The Explorer Scout programme offers a balanced range of activities covering the outdoors, skills, physical recreation, community service, environment, international themes, values and relationships. As well as these opportunities there is also the option of becoming a Young Leader for a different section.

Explorers renew their promise when they join the unit and follow the Scout Law. There is a range of badges for Explorer Scouts and three Award Challenges: The Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, The Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and The Queen’s Scout Award.

Richmondshire has 2 Explorer units that meet at Barton and Catterick Garrison. Scouts from any Group can transfer to either of the Explorer Units.

Please contact us for details of dates, venues and start times if your child is interested in joining Explorer Scouts in Richmondshire District or, if you have got an interest in helping us out, then please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
